By completing and submitting an application for membership with the Newcastle University Boat Club, the applicant agrees to abide by the Newcastle University Boat Club's Code of Conduct.

Code of Conduct

 

Purpose

 

This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for all members, coaches, volunteers, and visitors associated with the Newcastle University Boat Club (NUBC). It aims to promote a safe, inclusive, respectful, and high-performing sporting environment in line with the values of the University of Newcastle, Rowing NSW, and Sport Integrity Australia.

This Code applies to:

 

All Members of NUBC and any person representing or associated with NUBC including:

 

  • Athletes
  • Coaches
  • Exec Committee
  • Students
  • UoN Staff
  • Volunteers
  • Officials
  • Supporters and spectators

  • Respect for others, the club, and the environment
  • Integrity in actions, competition, and communication
  • Teamwork and support for all members
  • Responsibility for conduct on and off the water
  • Inclusion and zero tolerance for discrimination or harassment

 


 

Expected Behaviour

 

All members and participants must:

 

  • Treat others with dignity, fairness, and courtesy at all times.
  • Respect coaches, officials, volunteers, opponents, and teammates.
  • Abide by club rules, university policies, and Rowing NSW regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive training environment.
  • Use club equipment responsibly and report any damage or safety concerns.
  • Avoid conduct that could bring the club or university into disrepute.
  • Promote and support a culture of wellbeing and mental health.
  • Comply with anti-doping regulations and the principles of clean sport.

 


 

Unacceptable Behaviour

 

The following behaviours are strictly prohibited:

 

  • Bullying, harassment, or discriminatory conduct (based on gender, race, ability, sexuality, or any other attribute).
  • Verbal abuse, threats, intimidation, or physical violence.
  • Misuse of alcohol, illicit substances, or performance-enhancing drugs.
  • Hazing or initiation rituals that cause harm, discomfort, or exclusion.
  • Any form of cheating or unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Damage to club property, facilities, or shared venues.

 


 

Breaches and Disciplinary Action

 

Breaches of this Code of Conduct may result in:

 

  • Verbal or written warnings
  • Temporary or permanent suspension from training or competition
  • Revocation of club membership
  • Referral to the University of Newcastle or external governing bodies for further action

All allegations of misconduct will be handled fairly, promptly, and confidentially, in accordance with club procedures and applicable university or state sport policies.

 

 


 

Reporting Misconduct

 

If you witness or experience inappropriate behaviour, we encourage you to report it to:

 

Reports will be treated confidentially and with care for the safety of all involved.

 

 


 

Acknowledgement

 

All members are required to acknowledge and agree to this Code of Conduct as a condition of participation in NUBC activities. This ensures a safe and respectful environment for all.

 

NUBC is committed to the principles outlined in the Rowing NSW Member Protection Policy and aligns its expectations for conduct with Sport Integrity Australia’s National Integrity Framework. Any breaches may be referred to NUsport, Rowing NSW or the University of Newcastle, as appropriate.

Member Declaration – Code of Conduct

 

I, ___________________________________, acknowledge that I have read and understood the Newcastle University Boat Club (NUBC) Code of Conduct.

I agree to uphold the values and expectations outlined, and I understand that breaches may result in disciplinary action in accordance with club policy and relevant governing bodies.

I acknowledge and accept that there are inherent risks associated with participating in activities in the aquatic environment and the sport of rowing. This acknowledgment is in accordance with the risk warning provided by Rowing NSW.

I confirm that I am of sound health and capable of participating in activities in the aquatic environment. This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to swim at least 100 meters in full rowing gear, as required by the club’s safety protocols.

Age Requirement
Membership with NUBC is available to individuals aged 18 years and older. Applicants under the age of 18 may apply to the Club Executive for consideration. If deemed appropriate, the application will be forwarded to the NUSport Board for final approval.

 Adherence to Club and Association Rules
By applying for membership, I agree to abide by the rules, guidelines, and codes of conduct set forth by the Newcastle University, Newcastle University Boat Club, NUsport and Rowing NSW. I affirm that there are no reasons preventing me from joining the Club and participating fully in its activities.
